Also

The Spokane and Inland Empire Railroad Company operated fron 1904 to about 1930

It was bought by Great Northern and operated for another nine years

The line was scrapped between 1970 and 1985 but the last time a train went through here was in April 1939

They let the bridges rot where they fell

This was one of the most trecherous places on the line because the bridge curved over the creek

The chiseled areas for the bridge timbers are enormous

About halfway down the hill the wooden remains of the railroad start becoming evident

This railroad was the way people in neighboring communities connected with each other before the highway system

This is nothing but habitat now

Mt. Hope, Malden and Mica all reputedly suffered after the electric line shut down, but that's all rumor

The people who knew this path are mostly not around any more

Chicago

It is very lonely, and very quiet, and very eerie

There is a feeling that we are encroaching on the past here

Do you get the feeling, "I've seen horror movies that start this way." ?
