Science! Carpenter Ants

I wonder if that log is entirely hollow. Catpenter ants chew galleries in dead, damp wood.

I watched them for several minutes. Unlike termites, carpenter ants don't eat wood.

They throw teeny tiny pieces of wood out, but they eat other insects or aphid honeydew.

This is just their day job-carpenter ants mostly forage at night.

I imagine a tiny conveyor belt bringing sawdust up and little ants in red tee-shirts.
